An exceptionally rare natural history specimen, this fetal two-toed sloth retains its attached placenta and is preserved as a wet specimen in an antique Whitall Tatum glass jar dating to the 1800s.

The specimen originated from a Pennsylvania zoo and died from natural causes. The preservation of both the fetus and attached placenta offers a fascinating look at the reproductive anatomy and development of one of the world’s most unusual mammals.

The antique Whitall Tatum jar adds another layer of history to the piece. Founded in the 19th century, Whitall Tatum was a prominent American manufacturer of glassware, including laboratory, pharmaceutical, and apothecary vessels.
