A Roman unguentarium tear bottle is basically a tiny ancient perfume or oil bottle. The Romans used them for scented oils and ointments, not for storing actual tears. The whole “tear bottle” thing is more of a later romantic myth. Victorians loved the idea of people bottling their sadness (not much has changed to be honest), but in reality, it was just ancient skincare and smell-good storage. So really, it’s less emo diary entry and more 2,000-year-old travel-sized cologne.
