Unakite, also known as Epidotized or Epidote Granite, is a very common type of Granite with Epidote, Pink Orthoclase, and Quartz inclusions. It’s name afterthe Unaka Mountains in western North Carolina where it was first discovered. Unakite’s hardness and durability make it one of the easiest stones for beginners to tumble. In addition, this mineral can also be seen and used as decorative material within houses, museums, or specialty buildings. The most famous building known to have Unakite is the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington. Look for it on the trimming of the front steps right as you walk in or as floor tiles located at the south entrance.
According to metaphysics: Unakite is said to be a stone of vision, opening the third eye and useful for scrying. It is also believed to be a stone of balance, grounding the self while bringing emotions and spirituality together. Among crystal healing practitioners, unakite is used to support convalescence from illness.
