A cowfish is a funky little marine creature that looks like something out of a cartoon. It gets its name because it has tiny horn-like protrusions on its head, kind of like a cow. These fish are usually bright yellow or spotted and have a boxy, almost armor-plated body. They're slow swimmers, using their little fins to glide through the water in a pretty clumsy but adorable way.
One of their coolest features is their defense mechanism—when stressed, they can release a toxin that can be harmful to other fish around them. Despite how cool they are, they still prefer to be loners. A shame, too, because they really could get a seat at the popular kids’ table. Then again, being an outcast has become in vogue as of late.
Anyway, these amazing creatures deserve a spot in any collection of oddities and treasures.
