With a name like “Dragon Egg”, how can you not love these? Aside from the somewhat nerdy reason we love them (The writer of this description is a total nerd for dragons), they are absolutely beautiful. So what are these stony eggs apparently bestowed to us by mythological creatures? Septarian eggs are formed through volcanic eruptions and ocean sediments that create mud balls. As these balls shrink over time, stunning crystals and unique patterns emerge. These fascinating crystal formations originated during the Cretaceous period, around 50 to 70 million years ago. The name "Septarian" comes from the word "septum," meaning "portion," because the limestone mud masses from which they form dry and crack into distinct shapes before being filled with dark brown aragonite crystals. As a fun aside, they are also UV reactive. If you’ve already got a black light and a groovy wizard poster on the wall, these fit right in!
