The Catacanthus incarnatus, also known as the Red-shouldered Stink Bug or the man face stink bug, is a bug on many names and titles. The most obvious trait about these buddies is the odd looking pattern on its back. To us, it looks like the face of someone who knowingly did something culturally uncouth. Without getting sophomoric, you understand after this.

Like other members of the stink bug family (Pentatomidae), it has special glands that produce a strong-smelling chemical. This odor is a defense mechanism meant to deter predators, such as birds, lizards, or other insects. When threatened, the bug releases the smell from glands located on its thorax, making it unappetizing or even repulsive to anything trying to eat it.

Aside from this, let’s say, interesting quirk, the Catacanthus incarnatus is actually quite beautiful. Definitely one of our favorite bugs to carry and an instant add to any entomology collection.
