The pink sea gopher is as beautiful as it is delicate. It’s a species of echinoderm in the Heart Urchin family. The pink sea gopher has a soft pinkish hue, as you've probably already deduced. The coloration can vary from pale pink to deeper, more vibrant pinks, and it’s often a result of the particular species or environmental factors like diet or water conditions. Heart urchins are usually oval or heart-shaped (hence the name). The test (internal skeleton) is rather fragile, with four porous spaces, or petaloids. Generally speaking, heart urchins spend most of their life burrowing into the sand on the sea floor. As you might have guessed, that’s where the sea gopher gets its name. They can grow up to 6 inches and inhabit the intertidal zone, down to depths of 130 meters—an interesting fact, considering how delicate these specimens are.
All shells and sea life vary in size and shape. You will receive a high-quality specimen of the selected item, but not the exact one pictured.
