Nilgai are the largest antelope in Asia and, despite the name literally meaning “blue cow,” they are neither particularly blue nor cows. Males do develop a distinctive bluish-gray coat as they mature, though, so we’ll give whoever named them partial credit. Still, not sure where they pulled that name from. 

Native to the Indian subcontinent, nilgai are big, sturdy animals with long legs, sloping backs, and a rather unusual combination of features that makes them look a little like someone tried to assemble a horse, cow, and antelope from memory. Males also grow short, pointed horns, while females generally go without.

They’re remarkably adaptable animals and can live in everything from grasslands and scrub to agricultural areas. Nilgai were also introduced to Texas in the 20th century, where a substantial wild population now exists.

Basically, if you’ve ever wanted an antelope that looks like it can’t quite decide what kind of animal it is, the nilgai has you covered.

Please note:  We will do our best to ship via conventional methods, but some mounts are just too big for carriers to handle safely.

For Conventional: We will work to find you the best shipping rate and invoice you once it’s determined. Our in-house rates are typically lower than what you’d find at your local shipping store, as we regularly send out packages. Once your item is packed and ready, we’ll invoice you for the shipping. If the cost is more than you’re comfortable with, you can cancel your order at no charge.

Non-Conventional: If we are unable to ship via conventional methods, we recommend a taxidermy-specific carrier called Trophy Transport. Once purchased, we ask that you reach out to them to arrange shipping and payment. After that is done, we will work out the logistics and pickup with them.

We can also work with another carrier of your choice, but for taxidermy, they are generally the best and most affordable option since they do not need to crate the piece which is expensive.
