These special rocks, which bear a striking resemblance to humble pork loins, date back to the Jurassic era over 100 million years ago. The smooth, hard rocks' distinctive layers are produced by a rock cycle with sedimentary, siliceous and metamorphic phases. Uncannily, the layers closely resemble the layers of skin, fat and lean meat found in pork. The rocks gain their pale, fleshy color from natural minerals.
