If you’ve ever wandered around an old cemetery (and if you’re shopping at Paxton Gate, there’s a very high chance that you have) and become enchanted by the sombre yet interesting art carved onto the gravestones, these are for you. These castings were created using real gravestone rubbings from 17th to 21st century gravestones found in cemeteries throughout the New England region. All of these pieces are hand-formed and finished, so each and every one is unique.
The best and probably the most important part is that no gravestone was damaged in the process. While we all love the hauntingly captivating atmosphere of these old burial sites, it’s important that they remain intact and undisturbed. After all, they are hallowed ground and should be treated as such. With these castings, you can bring some of that graveyard magic into your home and keep the real deal safe and sound.
About the casting:
A skull and crossed bones were called a Jolly Roger used by pirates to signal danger. Mary Masury has it on her gravestone to warn on the perils of death for a life not lived well. Her warning is sent from Charter Street Burial Ground, Salem, Massachusetts, upon her death May 17, 1748.
