Carry a piece of outer space with you at all times with this nifty meteorite pendant. But what is a meteorite, exactly? Glad you asked:
A meteorite is a solid piece of debris from an object—like a comet, asteroid, or meteoroid—that originates in outer space and survives its journey through the atmosphere to reach the surface of a planet or moon. As it enters the atmosphere, friction, pressure, and chemical reactions with atmospheric gases cause it to heat up and glow. At that point, it becomes a meteor.
That fiery descent creates a bright streak in the sky—a fireball—commonly known as a shooting star or falling star. In many cultures, these were seen as omens from the gods, sometimes bringing good fortune, other times seen as a sign of divine anger raining down.
The Campo del Cielo is a famous iron meteorite that fell in northern Argentina about 4,000–5,000 years ago. Its name means "Field of the Sky." Composed mostly of iron and nickel, it’s one of the largest meteorite falls ever discovered, with over 100 tons recovered.
Fortunately for you, this pendant doesn’t weigh over 100 tons—but it’s still got some serious space cred.
