The impala (Aepyceros melampus) is a medium-sized antelope found in eastern and southern Africa. Known for its agility and grace, the impala is a highly adaptable herbivore, thriving in woodlands and savannas. Males, known as rams, have lyre-shaped horns, while females, or ewes, typically lack horns. Impalas are social animals, forming herds that can include dozens to hundreds of individuals. They have a reddish-brown coat with white underparts and characteristic black stripes on their rump and tail.
Impalas are well-known for their remarkable leaping ability, which helps them evade predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs. They can leap distances of up to 10 meters (33 feet) and heights of up to 3 meters (10 feet). Their diet mainly consists of grasses, but they will also browse on shrubs and trees, making them versatile feeders.
The male skulls such as this, are crowned with an impressive set of horns that will standout in any collection.
