Big, glossy, and built like a tiny armored tank, Heterometrus cyaneus is a forest scorpion native to Southeast Asia. Its nearly black exoskeleton can flash subtle shades of blue and green under the right light, which is considerably prettier than something with two enormous claws has any business being.

This scorpion spends much of its time hiding beneath logs, leaf litter, and other dark, damp places (relatable), waiting for something unfortunate to wander by. Unlike some of its smaller and more venomous relatives, Heterometrus relies heavily on those massive pincers to overpower its prey. Equal parts beautiful, intimidating, and suspiciously prehistoric-looking, it makes one hell of an addition to an entomology collection.
