Helenite is an interesting specimen, to say the least.
This green marble is actually a type of glass called helenite, created by heating ash from the eruption of Mount St. Helens. It was discovered accidentally by workers using acetylene torches on the volcanic rock—the intense heat fused the material into a vibrant green glass.
While it’s technically a form of volcanic glass, like obsidian, helenite hasn’t been found to occur naturally, so it’s considered man-made.
Either way, it’s a fascinating reminder of the earth’s raw, powerful forces.
