Meet the Alcides Day Moth, one of nature’s most flamboyant daytime flyers. Unlike most moths that stick to the shadows at night, this species struts its stuff in the sunlight, showing off wings that could make a rainbow jealous. Its wingspan can reach up to 10 centimeters, and its striking patterns serve both as camouflage among the foliage and as a warning to predators that it might not be the easiest snack.

Native to parts of Australia and surrounding regions, Alcides Day Moths belong to the family Uraniidae, which is known for its brilliantly colored and often metallic-looking scales. These moths feed on nectar, playing a small but important role in pollination. Their life cycle is fascinating too, going from egg to caterpillar to pupa before emerging as a dazzling adult.
