The Cithaerias butterfly is one of those insects that doesn’t really look real, even when it’s sitting right in front of you. Sometimes called a clearwing butterfly, much of its wings are nearly transparent, with flashes of color that somehow make the whole thing even stranger.

Also known as the "blushing phantom" butterfly, these somewhat ethereal specimens are a rad addition to any butterfly collection. Their wings are mostly transparent, with a blushy patch of pink on each hindwing. Members of this species are generally weak fliers and tend to avoid direct sunlight. While their brightly colored wings might say, "I'm a social butterfly," their tendency to avoid the light really places them firmly in the "goth kid" category. We can relate to that.
