What can we say about dogs that hasn’t already been said hundreds of times? It is hard to imagine anyone on Earth not knowing about man’s furry best friend or interacting with them in some way. They are lovable, goofy friends that truly make the world a brighter place. Our earlier ancestors also seemed to have had an affinity for them. Scientists think dogs were domesticated from wolves somewhere between 20,000 and 40,000 years ago, though some say it could be as far back as 100,000 years. Basically, back when humans were figuring out fire and cave art, wolves were like, “Hey, we will help you hunt if you feed us scraps,” and the rest is history.
But how did this unlikely friendship start? Thousands of years ago, some wolves started hanging around human camps, probably hoping for food scraps. Humans realized these wolves could help with hunting and act as guards, so a mutual friendship formed. Over time, the friendlier, less aggressive wolves evolved into dogs, while the wilder ones stayed wolves.
With these bones, it is easy to see the shared ancestry between our faithful companions and the howling phantoms of the forests. In short, dogs are great, and their bones are extremely fascinating.
