Bloodstone sounds like something you'd find tucked away in a necromancer's pocket, but it's actually a variety of chalcedony. Its dark green color is usually dotted with red spots of iron oxide, giving the stone its appropriately dramatic name. Which, in our humble opinion, is the coolest name of all the stones.

Humans have been fascinated by bloodstone for a very long time. In the ancient world, the red markings were associated with blood, strength, and vitality. By the Middle Ages, things got even more dramatic, with some believing the red spots were drops of Christ's blood that had fallen onto green stone during the crucifixion. Because apparently just being a cool-looking rock wasn't enough.

According to metaphysics: bloodstone is said to promote courage, strength, and endurance while helping to clear away negative energy. It's also commonly associated with grounding and protection.
