The black wildebeest (aka the white-tailed gnu) is one of two closely related wildebeest species. It’s part of the Connochaetes genus and the Bovidae family—basically, it’s in the cool antelope club.

Don’t let their chunky build fool you—these guys are fast. We're talking speeds up to 80 kph (that’s about 50 mph). Imagine that much wildebeest barreling toward you... good luck, lions.
