A bit about our birds:
We get our Parrots, cockatoos, parakeets, and most other bird species from a taxidermist who has been a practicing falconer for 30 years. He’s been familiar with bird law in California and worked with authorities in both his trades. He has built a relationship with the owner of a local Bird Farm. He receives birds that have died of natural causes- meaning disease/illness or the occasional old age death. Birds are some of the more fragile animals out there and are unfortunately susceptible to upper respiratory infections and intestinal diseases.

The Farm is one of, if not the largest of its kind in the state of CA and is home to thousands of birds across many species. The artist says they regularly have around 5,000 birds at any given time which is why he is able to recover a relatively steady number of specimens to work on. The good condition of the bird’s bodies- especially their beautiful feathers, is indicative of a good diet and properly constructed enclosures. The artist has assured us they work closely with veterinarians who are avian specialists and care a great deal about their health.
