Lemurian is the cream of the crop when it comes to quartz. Few other varieties have the same clarity, and its distinct light pink hue and fascinating structure set it apart from the rest. It is mostly known for its horizontal striations or grooves on the sides of the crystal. These striations, sometimes called “Lemurian lines,” give the crystals a ladder-like appearance and are the hallmark of Lemurian quartz.

It is hard to pinpoint the exact source for this, but the prevailing idea was that these crystals were seeded or encoded by an ancient civilization called Lemuria, a hypothetical lost continent thought to have existed in the Pacific or Indian Ocean. The horizontal striations on the crystal’s sides were said to be “records of wisdom, spiritual knowledge, or energy” left behind by Lemurians. Practitioners believe that by meditating with the crystal, you can “download” this knowledge and connect with higher consciousness. Keep in mind, this story is not from some ancient text or passed down tradition. It originated sometime in the 20th century in crystal healing communities. We're not saying that it discredits any of this but the context is important.
