One of the coolest things about Kambamby jasper (and there are many cool things about it) is that a lot of the deposits are only accessible during low tide. As the name suggests, Kambamby jasper is found along the coast and sea cliffs of Madagascar, which means if the tide is in, it’s inaccessible until the waves roll back out again. It makes it feel like the seas are closely guarding this stone because even they know how cool it is.

Speaking of the name, it’s not technically jasper. Some Kabamby pieces are partly translucent, which makes them closer to agate. So the name “jasper” is more of a trade name than a strict geological label.

Also, you would think that such a cool stone would have been famous long ago, but it’s actually a somewhat recent discovery. Even though locals knew about it, ocean jasper didn’t become widely known in the gem world until the late 1990s and early 2000s. That’s pretty wild to us, but considering the ocean is jealously guarding it beneath the surface, it kind of makes sense.

According to metaphysics: Kabamby Ocean Jasper is often called a “joy stone” and is believed to promote emotional balance, positivity, and stress relief. People associate it with calming, ocean-like energy, helping with mindfulness, and encouraging open emotional expression. It’s also thought to support letting go of negative patterns and feeling more connected to nature.
