Don’t these look just like orange slices to you? When I first saw them, my mind immediately went to “if I squeeze them, will juice come out”? As it turns out, they are not filled with a delightful citrus juice but they still draw that comparison every time I lay eyes them. The vivid coloration is actually due to the inclusion of hematite, an iron mineral, which in certain quantities, will give calcite the orange appearance. Calcite itself is a very common carbonate mineral and is a component of limestone. The mineral name “calcite” is credited to Gaius Plinius Secundus (Pliny the elder) in the year 79 based on the Latin word for “lime”. This stone is more reminiscent of an orange but you get the point. The carbonate minerals calcite, aragonite, and dolomite have been calculated to make up approximately 15 percent of the Earth’s sediments and sedimentary rocks and about 2 percent of the terrestrial crust. While calcite is somewhat ubiquitous, orange calcite is less so. This variety is usually found within Mexico, Canada, and South America. It’s a gorgeous stone and in this raw state, it’s truly a must have for any collection. 

According to metaphysics: Orange Calcite is a wonderful stone to use when trying to unrestricted one's creative or sexual energies. Only a few stones are believed to help circulate these energies throughout the body while breaking down barriers that keep us separated from these blockages. As our creative and sexual energies begin to flow freely, we become more comfortable with ourselves. This usually leads to an increase in confidence and self esteem.
