Coyotes are members of the Canidae family and share a lot of the same traits of their relatives: wolves, dogs, foxes and jackals. They are usually 32 to 37 inches long and weigh between 20 and 50 pounds. Their size is somewhere in between foxes and wolves. Coyote has incredible sense of hearing and smelling. It can localize a prey hiding under the snow using his ears. They also rely on their ears to avoid danger. Its ears can detect hunters and other potential threats as far as one mile away. To avoid danger, they developed a method of moving silently by walking on the tips of their toes. Not only are they stealthy, coyotes can achieve a speed of 40 miles per hours when chasing the prey. They are also excellent swimmers which pushes this amazing canine into the jack of all trades category.
