This antique mount is HUGE. It does have some wear and tear around the shield mount and a few scratches but we think it adds to the rustic feel of the mount. The horns and skull plate have been lacquered as well which gives them a deep smokey hue. If you're looking for a big statement piece or just some really big horns, this is the mount for you. Here's a bit about the Cape Buffalo:

The Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer) is a large African bovine and a prominent member of the Big Five game animals. It is known for its robust build, formidable horns, and significant role in the ecosystems it inhabits.

Cape buffalo are large, heavyset animals with strong, stocky bodies. They can stand up to 1.7 meters (5.6 feet) tall at the shoulder and can weigh between 500 to 900 kilograms (1,100 to 2,000 pounds). They have a dark, shaggy coat, and their most distinctive feature is their large, curved horns that fuse at the base to form a continuous bone shield known as a "boss." The name is fitting considering what's attached to it.
