Derived from the Greek word meaning Copper Flower, this brightly colored mineral is found in the late stage oxidization zones of copper deposits. Chalcanthite is most know for its bright blue color, but is also desired as a copper ore, although this can be problematic due to its solubility. In nature, chalcanthite often forms, dissolves and then re-crystallizes forming small clusters. These larger specimen have been lab grown to protect the crystals from moisture that might break down their structure. Add a little blue to your foggy San Francisco day.

Keep chalcanthite away from moisture or direct sun.
